Production Details Generations of ducks once roamed the lands of the Smuts family, reared by our family matriarch Kathleen Smuts since 1923, on the farm Lucerne, Robertson, South Africa. Total vineyards planted: 0.85 ha. Block planted 14 August 2015. With a late and slow harvest the 2021 harvest most definitely will be a vintage of remarkable wines. Cooler weather enabled us to harvest the grapes at exactly the right time with exceptional colour extraction. Hailing from deep red Swartland clay- soil known throughout Bonnievale, this wine exudes beautiful floral notes and intense vibrant red fruit. Fruit were delicately picked in small crates by hand and handled softly through pump overs during fermentation. After a 10 day fermentation period the new wine was racked to barrel for second fermentation and further maturation of 12 months in older 300 liter barrels. Enjoy ripe black fruit with smoky notes on the nose and an elegant dry finish. Drink through to 2029.
